At Fynder, we consider ourselves really lucky to work with super cool people. From studio owners to yoga teachers to marketing execs and digital experts each day brings interesting conversations and opportunities to think about ways that Fynder can help our clients. Going forward, in addition to people being able to see the fruits of those conversations in the Fynder system, we’ll be sharing some of them here in our latest blog series ‘In Their Shoes.’ This week we took a class at one of our faves Blue Cow Yoga – at their space in the heart of the capital city – and put ourselves ‘in the shoes’ of phenomenal teacher, inspiring studio manager and all around amazing guy Tim.
Tim’s role
Tim manages the Heartcore City location, which in addition to the Blue Cow Yoga space has a Heartcore Barre and Heartcore Dynamic Pilates studio. Tim teaches all three classes, as well as managing the client base and space. Woah.
Tim’s week
Tim teaches 8 classes a week of barre, pilates and yoga, combined. The rest of his time is spent on his other duties which include:
- Client relationships: feedback, new clients.
- Instructor management: scheduling, invoices.
- Admin: cleaning services, ordering, stock check, linen services, vendors, landlords.
Tim’s Journey
Tim started off by studying biomedical sciences at university; think lots of latin names labelling body parts and hours spent in the lab genetically engineering bacteria. He then followed the logical progression and became a free-lance professional dancer. After dancing, Tim joined Blue Cow Yoga as the studio manager, and his relationship with yoga took off from there. Although he practiced as a dancer, the exposure at Blue Cow was greater, which eventually led him to become a teacher.
Tim’s Favourite Moments
Tim loves to teach. He likes the physical aspect of it; being able to move with the class, interact and practice with them. He loves being able to accompany people on their journey, hear their stories as they grow and learn and be there to support and celebrate with them.
Tim’s Biggest Challenge
Tim finds it a challenge at times to jump between different roles, ensure he’s able to switch between those roles and the different hat he needs to wear for each one!
Tim’s City Studio
In the city, people need things to move fast. A quick fix in a certain amount of time. They want to come in, do their thing, feel good about it and then get back to their desk. The challenge lies in structuring classes that are at times shorter than your usual classes to ensure clients still get the full experience. For example, you need to bring them to focus within the first ten minutes of the class rather than half way through the class.
Yoga vs. Pilates vs. Barre
Teaching three different movement disciplines is undoubtedly going to throw up different challenges. Heartcore reformer pilates is high energy and you have to be pumped. Yoga is more chilled. Tim brings a modern twist to the yoga through house music to keep some energy within the class. The challenge comes with switching between the different roles and inhabiting the appropriate frame of mind.
Tim’s Top Tip
‘Trying to juggle everything can be incredibly taxing on the body and mind at times. When you hit that bump, it helps to remind yourself of the passion that drove you in the first place, to do what you do. If all fails, there’s nothing a glass of wine and a good night’s sleep can’t fix!’
